The goal of this project was for me to construct a fully functional armature made from scratch. I successfully created every joint (ball and socket) from 18 gauge brass sheet, lamp balls, and wire. The base is made from laser cut acrylic. The armature is anchored by two rare earth magnets embedded in the acrylic base. Techniques included tap and die, soldering and drilling. The assignment had to incorporate o-rings, which I used as my armature's "hands." Therefore, the armature can playfully serve as an oil and vinegar stopper. I chose to make an armature because of my strong interest in stop motion animation. I now have a basic understanding of how puppets are constructed. I hope that someday I will be able to make puppets for stop motion animation films!
